The World Bank’s 2024 Container Port Performance Index (CPPI), compiled in collaboration with S&P Global Market Intelligence, ranked Pakistan’s Port Qasim as the ninth most improved port globally. This announcement highlights the port’s impressive performance increase of 35.2 points from 2020 to 2024.
Maritime Affairs Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh hailed the ranking as a “matter of national pride.” In a statement, he credited sustained reforms, modernisation, and the adoption of global best practices. “This reflects our efforts to enhance efficiency and make the maritime sector a vital trade contributor,” Sheikh said.
The port’s progress stems from policy measures, regulatory reforms, and investments in modern technology. These efforts have transformed Port Qasim into a competitive regional hub, boosting Pakistan’s profile in global shipping and trade.
