Polling for the NA-148 Multan by-election commenced today under rigorous security measures. The voting process is scheduled from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM without breaks.
Eight candidates from various political factions are vying for the seat previously held by Senator Yousuf Raza Gilani, who resigned after being sworn in as Senate Chairman.
Political analysts anticipate a close race, particularly among Ali Qasim Gilani of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Taimur Altaf from the Sunni Ittehad Council, and Ahmed Hussain Dehr. In the last election on February 8, Ahmad Hussain Dehar, representing the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), secured 57,989 votes.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, the constituency’s total number of registered voters is 213,333, comprising 111,639 male and 101,694 female voters.
The constituency was NA-154 Multan-I during the 2018 elections but has been re-designated as NA-148 Multan-I for this election cycle. A review of the electoral rolls shows a decrease in registered voters, with a reduction of 171,900 compared to the 2018 figures.
