An hours-long PTI sit-in protest outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail ended late Tuesday night following a police operation. Authorities used water cannons to disperse the crowd after Imran Khan’s sisters were again denied a meeting with the incarcerated former prime minister.
The protest turned confrontational. Some participants resisted by hurling stones, leading to the arrest of several PTI workers. The demonstration began at the Factory Area checkpoint after Noreen Khan, Aleema Khan, and Uzma Khan were denied entry because official meeting hours had ended.
Former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan joined the sisters in solidarity. As police moved to clear the area, Aleema Khan urged PTI workers to remain calm. She stated the police were “not our enemies” and were themselves under pressure, asking supporters to step back because women were present.

Aleema questioned why her brother was being kept in what she called “solitary confinement” and denied meetings for weeks. She insisted that her sister, Uzma, had not discussed politics during a previous permitted visit, countering the government’s stated reason for the ban.
Security was extreme around the jail. Authorities imposed Section 144, deployed over 1,200 officers, and sealed the road. Commercial and educational establishments in Gorakhpur and Dahgal remained closed.
The use of water cannons in freezing cold winter temperatures on a group of people patiently sitting on the side of the road in peaceful protest is a despicable act of desperation by a regime that knows it has very little public support and zero legitimacy. pic.twitter.com/nG2G8dIBVs

Negotiations between protesters and Islamabad police reached a deadlock. PTI leadership demanded the return of 14 impounded vehicles as a condition to end the protest. Police had earlier taken these government and private vehicles into custody.
PTI leader Asad Qaiser condemned the refusal of the visit as unlawful. He reiterated demands for Imran Khan’s release and a merit-based legal process, warning that banning the leader would not eliminate the party.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan spoke to journalists at the Dahgal checkpoint. He stated that meeting Imran Khan was a legal right supported by court orders. He warned that blocking access would increase tensions and risk pushing the country into turmoil. Gohar emphasised that “politics should not turn into enmity” and called for constructive dialogue.

He noted the PTI founder had delegated negotiation authority to Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Raja Nasir Abbas. Gohar warned that continued chaos would lead to public despair and urged institutions and parliament to work harmoniously. This incident marks the latest escalation in a prolonged dispute over access to the imprisoned former prime minister.
