The police have refuted claims of a robbery reported by Nafeesa Saeed, the wife of former Provincial Assembly member Saeed Akbar Nawani, labelling the allegations as unfounded.
According to a Daily Dunya report, Nafeesa Saeed alleged she was robbed at gunpoint in the Bhikay Wal area of Muslim Town while accompanied by her son, Hassan. She claimed that four individuals in a truck intercepted her vehicle, robbing her of 29 tolas of jewellery and 44,000 rupees in cash.
However, an investigation, aided by Safe City camera footage, showed discrepancies in her account. The footage did not record any robbery or even the presence of another vehicle or individuals approaching her car, though it did confirm that her vehicle stopped in the area. Further inquiries revealed that she had reported initially losing 10 and later 29 tolas of gold.
Police sources suggest that Nafeesa Saeed was in the process of returning borrowed gold to her sister and allegedly fabricated the robbery story with her brother-in-law’s collusion.
Saeed Akbar Nawani, Nafeesa Saeed’s husband, was a provincial minister in Usman Buzdar’s administration under the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. After switching allegiances in a regime change operation, he assisted in overthrowing the PTI provincial government alongside Hamza Shahbaz. In the general elections of 2024, Nawani lost his seat to PTI’s Irfanullah Niazi in a by-election following his departure from PTI.
