After Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took notice of Nankana Sahib’s lynching, police detained 12 people for blasphemy on Sunday.
The Punjab Police says the video identified the suspects involved in the horrible crime.
On Saturday, hundreds of enraged mobs tortured and killed a blasphemy suspect abducted from Warburton police station. SHO Warburton Feroze Bhatti and other police officers fled to kill when a mob lynched a prisoner for blasphemy.
A man recently released after two years in prison allegedly practiced witchcraft by placing photographs of his ex-wife on holy paper.
Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Usman Anwar suspended two senior police officials for failing to stop the rowdy mob from torturing the suspected blasphemer upon learning of the incident.
The police stated in the statement that Dr. Usman Anwar had suspended Nankana Sahib Circle DSP Nawaz Warak and Warburton Shaw DSP Feroz Bhatia. In addition, the IGP ordered Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Muhammad Amin Bukhari and Special Branch DIG Raja Faisal to investigate the incident and submit a report.
The IGP indicated that departmental and judicial action would be taken against individuals involved in the incident.
