Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Irfan Siddiqui is currently in critical condition and will miss a crucial vote on the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Family sources report that the senator has been placed on a ventilator at a private hospital.
Medical sources confirm his condition is serious, with doctors closely monitoring his health. This sudden development introduces significant uncertainty into the Senate proceedings scheduled for Monday.
Senator Siddiqui’s absence means he will be unable to cast his vote on the proposed constitutional changes. As a vocal PML-N stalwart, his vote was considered crucial for the government’s legislative agenda.
The joint parliamentary committee had approved the complete draft of the amendment the day before. Chaired by Senator Farooq H. Naek, the committee granted clause-by-clause approval to 49 proposed changes.

The vote is taking place during a boycott by major opposition parties. Key groups, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), did not attend the committee meeting.
The cabinet-approved draft is now set for presentation in the Upper House. Coalition parties will reconsider further proposed tweaks in a separate meeting scheduled for the following day
