The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Aoun Jahangir has been involved in a contentious incident with a PASCO employee, which has now become widely viewed through a viral video.
In the footage, an associate of MPA Jahangir is seen striking a PASCO employee. Jahangir strongly stated that he would safeguard his constituents’ interests, asserting, “If even one of my people is left without burlap, I will not let it go.”
The PASCO centre in charge has accused the MPA of abusive and violent behaviour towards the staff. This incident comes amid broader unrest in Punjab, where the delayed start of wheat procurement has sparked protests among farmers. Further complicating the situation, it has been uncovered that PASCO staff in Pakpattan were illicitly selling government burlap in Vehari, leading to official action.
Assistant Commissioner of Pakpattan, Naeem Bashir, conducted a raid at the PASCO Center at Chak Noor Muhammad. During the operation, it was confirmed that government burlap was being sold illicitly in Vehari. At the raid’s commencement, Project Manager Mumtaz Bajwa and Center In-charge Mudassir Nawaz fled. The assistant commissioner seized five trailers of wheat transported from Vehari, placing them under government control.
Subsequently, legal charges were filed against Mudassir Nawaz, the centre in charge, for diverting burlap meant for farmers to middlemen in response to the escalating wheat procurement crisis.
Punjab’s Food Minister Bilal Yasin announced yesterday that a fact-finding committee has been established to investigate the matter of wheat import. He assured that the findings of this inquiry would soon be disclosed to the public.
