The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) general council meeting is scheduled to occur today (Friday) in Islamabad.
Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, has confirmed that the virtual meeting will be presided over by PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, alongside the party’s president, Shehbaz Sharif.
The party’s central leadership, officials, and leaders will participate in this assembly. A crucial item on the agenda is the execution of intra-party elections, signifying the party’s dedication to democratic processes and clear decision-making.
Earlier reports suggest that the current party president, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is expected to be re-elected unopposed as the PML-N president.
Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Saad Rafique and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq are also expected to be assigned to party positions.
Maryam Nawaz will likely maintain her roles as the chief organizer and senior vice president, facing no opposition in the election process. Hamza Shahbaz is predicted to take up the role of senior vice president within the party.
Yet, the decision about Shahid Khaqan Abbasi accepting a party position remains uncertain.
Through these intra-party elections, the PML-N aims to reinforce its internal framework and solidify its standing in preparation for the critical general election in October.
