The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has agreed to a series of demands from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) concerning appointments in district administration and law offices and representation in various boards and authorities. These agreements also extend to the swift organization of local elections and the equitable distribution of development funds among PML-N parliamentarians.
Officials from both parties confirmed that an additional secretary had been appointed at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat specifically to address PPP’s concerns.
Despite these developments, PML-N’s Punjab spokesperson, Uzma Bukhari, expressed unawareness of any formal agreement. She mentioned that while there have been no postings based on political bias, the appointment of an additional secretary to alleviate PPP’s concerns is plausible.
Members from both parties have acknowledged that their prior disagreements have been resolved. A representative from PPP remarked that the coalition had acted upon the terms agreed upon at its formation.
A PML-N leader described the demands as legitimate and requiring immediate attention. He confirmed the role of the additional secretary at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat is solely to address and resolve issues raised by the PPP.
In the future, the Punjab government will consult with the PPP to appoint deputy commissioners, district police officers, and revenue officers in districts where the party has significant support. This includes Multan, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Rawalpindi, and Rajanpur.
Furthermore, even though the PML-N lacks representation in the Sindh Assembly, the PPP is prepared to consider PML-N’s recommendations for bureaucratic appointments.
The parties have also agreed to ensure that appointments of law officers at both the federal and provincial levels are proportionate to the number of seats each party holds in the respective assemblies.
