The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall in several parts of the country from Sunday through Tuesday, as a cold wave continues to affect large areas.
According to the Met Office, Islamabad, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, and Galiyat can expect rainfall, while mountainous regions are likely to receive snowfall.
Meteorologists said a new westerly weather system will enter western Pakistan on Sunday night. The system will move toward northern areas by Monday, intensifying cold conditions.
Balochistan and Upper Sindh Outlook
The PMD forecast rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall at scattered locations across Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Zhob, Kalat, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Noshki, Harnai, Khuzdar, Kharan, Washuk, Chaghi, Panjgur, Awaran, Kech, Turbat, Gwadar, and Jiwani from Sunday night into Monday.

Similar conditions are likely in upper Sindh, including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu, on January 26.
Snowfall Expected in Northern Areas
The Met Office expects heavy snowfall in parts of Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar in Gilgit-Baltistan. Rain and snow are also likely in Kashmir’s Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Rawalakot, and Haveli.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Peshawar, Nowshera, Swabi, Malakand, Mardan, Kohat, Kurram, Khyber, Hangu, Bajaur, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Waziristan, along with Murree and Galiyat, are likely to experience rain and snowfall on January 26 and 27.
Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several parts of Punjab, including Lahore, Chakwal, Attock, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, Sargodha, Mianwali, Multan, Layyah, Bhakkar, and Dera Ghazi Khan, with intermittent breaks.

Relief Operations Underway
Severe weather has disrupted daily life in upper regions, blocking roads and restricting movement. Authorities have mobilised relief efforts to assist affected communities.
The Pakistan Army, with support from the Frontier Corps, has launched continuous relief operations in Tirah Valley.

Rescue teams have cleared snowbound routes, rescued stranded vehicles, and relocated residents to safer locations. Security personnel remain deployed on the ground to supervise operations.
