Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is set to  chair a high-level meeting at the Governor House, Karachi. He will take up the issue of extending the Rangers’ stay in the port city with the Sindh government today (Monday).

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be the chief guest in the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) air power demonstration show at the Somniani Range. He will hold the meeting before returning to Islamabad.

The air power show will be carried out by bombers and multi-role PAF planes. Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif will also watch this show.

General Raheel Sharif, Director General Inter Services Intelligence (DGISI) Lieutenant General Rizvan Akhtar Malik, Corps Commander Karachi Lieutenant General Navid Mukhtar, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DGISPR) Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad and other high officials will later attend the meeting at the Governor House.

Earlier, Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan commending the performance and achievements of the Rangers in Karachi said that peace and order in the city had become possible due to the bravery and sacrifices of the Rangers and the people in uniform.

To a query he said that the operation against the terrorists and criminals would continue in Karachi and its scope could be enhanced in the wake of recent developments. He said that the investigations into the recent killing of Rangers personnel in Karachi were still under way but he refrained from pointing a finger towards anyone. “We should wait for the outcome of the investigations,” he said.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that the Rangers would get special powers to continue operations in Karachi under the Anti-Terrorist Act (ATA).
