Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with co-chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Punjab caretaker chief minister Mohsin Naqvi to discuss the country’s political and economic situation.
According to the PMO, the prime minister first met former president Asif Zardari to discuss the country’s situation.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Aviation Minister Saad Rafiq, Economic Affairs Minister Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and PPP leaders Saleem Mandviwala and Dr. Asim Hussain attended the meeting.
The PPP source said the meeting covered politics, the economy, and elections in Punjab and KP.
According to the Constitution, elections in the two provinces must be held within three months of assembly dissolution. However, the ruling alliance, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), has yet to decide if it will participate.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan dissolved Punjab Assembly on Jan 14 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Jan 18 to pressure the ruling coalition to hold early elections.
PM Sharif also met with newly appointed caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and urged him to maintain law and order and stabilize market prices.
The recent Punjab postings and transfers after the caretaker chief minister took office were also discussed.
Earlier, the PM also received the UAE ruler on a private visit to Pakistan.
The prime minister, Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb, caretaker Punjab CM Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi welcomed UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Chandna Airport in Rahim Yar Khan.
The prime minister recalled his recent visit to the UAE and stressed that both countries would implement the agreements between the two leaders.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited Pakistan privately and said his father, who loved Pakistan and its people, built their bilateral relations.
The UAE president called Pakistan his second home and promised the premier that the UAE would always support Pakistan.
