Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, engaged in a personal and professional exchange during the Paris New Global Financial Pact summit.
PM Sharif and Dr. Al Jasser shared a friendly exchange, with the IDB President revealing his affinity for Pakistani mangoes and a promise from Sharif to send some as a gift. The PM also invited Dr. Al Jasser to visit Pakistan at his earliest opportunity.
Their meeting focused on the continuous collaboration between Pakistan and the IDB, discussing the progress of existing projects and brainstorming potential future cooperation. Sharif expressed his gratitude for the IDB’s role in the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan, appreciating the bank’s pledge of $4.2 billion to aid Pakistan’s post-flood recovery.
The PM also highlighted how the partnership between IDB and Pakistan would be instrumental in helping the country’s people rebuild their lives, achieve sustainable development goals, and improve foreign investment via the newly formed Special Investment Facilitation Council.
While attending the summit, Sharif urged the global community to establish a fair and equitable resource distribution system to ensure worldwide peace and harmony. The summit saw several notable announcements, including a pledge to shift $100 billion into a climate and poverty fund, a pause on debt repayments for crisis-hit countries, and substantial aid for Senegal and Zambia. The PM’s presence at the summit signifies Pakistan’s commitment to achieving global financial stability and sustainable development.
