During his inaugural visit to Karachi, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced the allocation of 150 buses to the city’s public transport system. This decision was made after Sindh Minister for Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon requested 300 buses to bolster Karachi’s fleet. Although the request was for 300, the federal government committed to providing half that number.
Prime Minister Sharif praised the Sindh government’s efforts to enhance public transportation services. His visit included a review of the Sindh government’s transport initiatives.
The Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project was a significant focus of discussions during his visit. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah updated the Prime Minister on the progress, noting that a revised feasibility study was completed in 2023.
The Chief Minister requested PM intervention to expedite the framework agreement for the KCR project and asked the railways ministry to grant the Sindh government the “Right of Way” (RoW).
The meeting was attended by notable federal ministers, including Ahsan Iqbal, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Owais Leghari, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Musadik Malik, Jam Kamal, and Ataullah Tarar. Representing Sindh was Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who highlighted the collaborative effort between federal and provincial governments to improve Karachi’s transport infrastructure.
