Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif earlier today performed the ground-breaking of about 2,000 kilometer Pakistan-China Optical Fibre Cable in Gilgit under  the auspices of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Speaking on the ground-breaking ceremony, PM Nawaz Sharif said the project would provide 3G and 4G facilities in Gilgit-Baltistan and make it most developed area of Pakistan.

The Premier also announced a technical training institute with the cost of Rs100 million.

Earlier, PM Nawaz Sharif was accorded warm welcome as he arrived on a day long visit.

On his arrival at Gilgit Airport, the Prime Minister was received by Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, Governor Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan and members of the GB Legislative Assembly and Council.

Federal Ministers Birjees Tahir and Anusha Rehman are accompanying the Prime Minister.

The construction of optical fibre cable would be an essential part of the CPEC and it would mark another important step towards completion of the project. It would link China with Gwadar through Islamabad. The army will be supervising the construction of fibre cable. It would be completed with the most sophisticated material and provide the best service to the users.
