Islamabad: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said the Strategic Plans Division (SPD) was playing an important role in strengthening Pakistan’s defence capabilities and appreciated its mechanism of national security and safety.
The prime minister stated this in a meeting with Strategic Plans Division (SPD) Director General of Lt Gen Mazhar Jamil here at the Prime Minister’s House. The matters relating to Pakistan’s nuclear, missile and space programs came under discussion.
Lt Gen Mazhar Jamil thanked the government for reposing confidence in him for this important assignment and assured the prime minister that he would perform his duties to the best of his abilities. The prime minister expressed the confidence that under the command of new director general, the SPD would continue to work efficiently.
The SPD is an important component of National Command Authority which is headed by the prime minister and exercises complete command and control over Pakistan’s nuclear and strategic capability structure.
