Sony has announced a significant price increase for its PlayStation Plus subscription service in Türkiye, triggering widespread criticism from the gaming community. The Deluxe tier, the most expensive package, will see its annual cost rise by 55.69%, jumping from ₺2,740 to ₺4,266 starting 24 June 2025.
The price adjustments affect multiple PlayStation Plus tiers. The Extra tier will also face a similar increase, rising from ₺2,340 to ₺3,645 annually. While Sony has not officially disclosed the new pricing for the Essential tier, applying the same percentage increase suggests its yearly cost could climb from ₺1,400 to approximately ₺2,180.
Sony emailed these changes to subscribers, confirming that the new rates will take effect on 24 June 2025. This marks the second major price adjustment in Türkiye since 2023, when prices surged by up to 600% due to inflation and currency depreciation.

PlayStation Plus Features and Growing Concerns
PlayStation Plus provides gamers access to online multiplayer, monthly free games, discounts, cloud storage, and game trials across its Essential, Extra, and Deluxe tiers. Despite these benefits, the steep price increases are raising concerns about affordability. Turkish gamers, already grappling with economic volatility, are finding it harder to justify the cost of the service. Sony defends the hike, stating that it aims to maintain service quality and deliver high-value games and features. However, many players argue that the rising costs make the platform less accessible in a market where consumer spending power is already strained.

The price hike has prompted varied responses from the gaming community in Türkiye. Some players are taking proactive steps to avoid the increase, with reports of users renewing their subscriptions at current rates for extended periods. A notable case from 2023 resurfaced, where a player prepaid for 27 years of service to lock in lower rates. Others are cancelling their subscriptions altogether, seeking more affordable alternatives.

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, priced at around ₺2,500 per year for the Ultimate tier in Türkiye, has gained attention for its extensive game library. Additionally, services like EA Play are emerging as viable options for gamers looking to save on costs while enjoying access to popular titles.
Türkiye’s economic challenges, including inflation and currency depreciation, amplify the impact of Sony’s price increase. The 2023 price surge of up to 600% already strained gamers, and this latest hike adds further pressure. Critics argue that Sony’s decision risks alienating its Turkish user base, potentially driving more players to competitors. While Sony has not confirmed whether similar increases will apply to other PlayStation Plus packages, subscribers are bracing for further adjustments. The situation highlights the delicate balance between maintaining service quality and ensuring affordability in regions facing economic hardship.
