The Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) sharply criticized a Sunday raid by the Quetta administration. This action allegedly targeted the home of PkMAP’s chairman, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, also a presidential contender against PPP’s Asif Ali Zardari, under the guise of reclaiming government property supposedly unlawfully held by Achakzai.
PkMAP suggests the raid was a targeted response from “state institutions” to a recent speech Achakzai gave in the National Assembly. Contrarily, Quetta Deputy Commissioner Saad Asad clarified that the operation aimed to retake adjacent land to Achakzai’s residence, reportedly encroached upon by the PkMAP chief, spanning 2.5 kanals and enclosed by a wall.
Asad disclosed the enforcement’s successful recovery of the land, mentioning the detention of an armed individual who hindered an assistant commissioner’s duty.
The raid, part of a broader initiative to identify and recover illicitly occupied government lands in Balochistan, sparked PkMAP’s Secretary General Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal to decry the act as politically motivated at a late-night press briefing, vowing nationwide protests.
Ziaratwal, flanked by party notables, insinuated the raid was retaliation for Achakzai’s critical parliamentary address, hinting at potential further actions against Achakzai and his family under fabricated charges.
He underscored PkMAP’s commitment to constitutional supremacy and democracy, rejecting any allegiance to authoritarian regimes. The party announced immediate protests and legal community strikes to contest the Quetta administration’s measures.
