Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has shared findings from black box data recovered from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-661 with the Senate Standing Committee on Rules of Procedures and Privileges.

PIA flight PK-661 crashed on  December 7  left at least 47 people dead including famed singer-turned-preacher Junaid Jamshed. The flight crashed on its way to Islamabad from Chitral.

Secretary Aviation & Chairman CAA Board Sqn Ldr (Retd) Muhammad Irfan Elahi shared the findings of the report with the committee and said that both the engines of the ATR-42 plane were 100 percent fine at the time of the take off.

“The pilot’s voice was very calm when he made the first call at 04:12pm but only after two minutes, he gave the Mayday call and informed the control room that one of the engines has stopped working,” the secretary aviation said.

He said the final call from the plane revealed that the plane was turned towards east at 04:17pm rather than north.

“After 10 to 15 minutes of the last call, the control tower received information of plane’s crash landing,” said Irfan Elahi.

He added that no effort was made to land the aircraft before the crash was reported
