The privatisation process of Pakistan International Airlines has entered its final phase, with senior management of the national carrier holding key meetings with officials from all four bidding consortia.
According to sources, the final briefing included a session with PIA’s chief executive officer. It was attended by the airline’s chief finance officer, chief human resources officer, and other senior officials. Separate meetings with the consortiums were also held in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, while PIA and the Privatisation Commission continued to provide operational records daily.
Officials familiar with the process said all four consortia are treating the privatisation seriously and are actively preparing their bids. Financial and human resource experts representing the bidders have reviewed detailed operational and administrative data as part of the due diligence process.

Sources confirmed that the consortium will submit its bid on December 23. The airline will be awarded to the group that offers the highest bid, in line with the government’s privatisation framework.
At present, PIA operates a fleet of 34 aircraft across more than 90 domestic and international routes. Comprehensive information on the airline’s workforce of over 7,500 employees has been shared with bidders. This includes data on pilots, engineers, cabin crew, ground staff, and personnel posted in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and overseas stations.
The consortiums have also received records detailing PIA’s daily revenue from both domestic and international operations. Sources said information on retired employees was also provided, with clear assurances that pension liabilities will not transfer to the new management.
The Prime Minister’s Secretariat has directed all relevant departments to cooperate with the bidding process fully. Authorities have reiterated that the privatisation will be conducted transparently and broadcast live on the media.
