Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has modified its flight routes following Israel’s airstrikes on Iran on June 12, 2025, which targeted nuclear facilities, military sites, and killed key figures, including IRGC chief Hossein Salami.
The closure of Iranian airspace prompted PIA to reroute flights to ensure passenger safety, while Pakistan strongly condemned the attacks as a violation of international law.
Israel’s “Operation Rising Lion” struck Iran’s Natanz uranium enrichment facility, ballistic missile factories, and IRGC headquarters in Tehran, according to ARY News. Iranian state television reported the death of Hossein Salami and civilian casualties in residential areas. Israel declared a state of emergency, anticipating retaliatory missile and drone strikes from Iran.
Iranian media described the attacks as a significant escalation, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowing a “crushing response.” Iran asserts its right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

PIA’s Flight Route Adjustments
Due to Iran’s airspace closure, PIA has rerouted flights to the Gulf countries, Toronto, and Paris through the Muscat Flight Information Region (FIR), as confirmed by a PIA spokesperson. Key changes include:
- Flights to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the UAE now transit via Muscat FIR.
- Transatlantic and European routes to Toronto and Paris use Oman’s airspace for safe operations.
These adjustments align with global aviation responses to Middle East tensions, with airlines like Qatar Airways and Emirates diverting flights through Muscat and UAE airspace.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement denouncing Israel’s actions as “unjustified and illegitimate,” arguing they violate Iran’s sovereignty and the UN Charter. The ministry expressed solidarity with Iran, warning that the attacks threaten regional peace and stability.
The statement urged the international community and the United Nations to intervene, hold Israel accountable, and prevent further escalation. Pakistan emphasised that such provocations endanger the entire region.
