The government of Pakistan has issued an official notification announcing revised petroleum product prices, keeping petrol prices unchanged while delivering a significant reduction in the price of high-speed diesel.
According to the notification, petrol will continue to be sold at Rs263.45 per litre. In contrast, the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs14 per litre, bringing the new rate down to Rs265.65 per litre for the next fortnight.
The announcement follows earlier expectations of a broader reduction in fuel prices, which sources had indicated could reach up to Rs11.85 per litre from December 16. Initial price calculations indicated the steepest cut in high-speed diesel, projected to fall to around Rs270.80 per litre.
Sources had also anticipated notable reductions in other petroleum products. The price of kerosene oil was expected to decline by Rs11.70 per litre, while light diesel oil was projected to decline by Rs10.10 per litre. Under those projections, kerosene oil would have been priced at approximately Rs181.16 per litre and light diesel oil at Rs153.76 per litre.

Petrol was expected to see only a marginal decrease of Rs 0.36 per litre, reflecting limited scope for adjustment given international pricing trends and fiscal considerations.
As part of the routine process, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority submitted its final price working to the Finance Ministry on December 15. Following approval by the prime minister, the Petroleum Division formally notified the revised prices for the upcoming fortnight.
In the previous review, the government had already reduced petrol prices by Rs2 per litre and cut high-speed diesel by Rs4.79 per litre, providing partial relief to consumers amid fluctuating global oil markets.
