Protests and scuffles erupted in Peshawar due to issues surrounding the distribution of free government wheat flour.
Demonstrations took place in various parts of the city, with protesters blocking roads and causing significant traffic congestion. Many people reported waiting in long queues all day, only to leave empty-handed and accused the government of distributing flour based on nepotism and political affiliations.
As complaints regarding the lack of free flour distribution grow, Peshawar police have advised the provincial government to enlist the assistance of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) to maintain law and order during the distribution process.
Police officials are already stretched thin due to ongoing census work and providing security during the holy month of Ramadan.
The provincial government is considering deploying FC personnel at problematic distribution points and will consult with the central government to make a final decision.
While various provincial governments announced plans for free flour distribution, disorganized distribution in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa led to stampedes, resulting in injuries and fatalities.
