The Anti-Terrorism Court in Peshawar has formally issued a charge sheet against the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and directed an official notice to the Ministry of Interior, Inspector General of Police, and Assistant Inspector General of CTD.
The ATC Peshawar criticizes the CTD for conducting arrests without sufficient evidence, misusing police authority, and contributing to the department’s deteriorating reputation through substandard performance.
The court has expressed concern over the CTD’s persistent negative behaviour, indicating a need for a thorough review of the department’s operational effectiveness.
The charge sheet highlights the case from a 2017 attack on the Agriculture Training Institute. Hammaduddin, who was apprehended six years after the incident, was determined to lack any concrete evidence or reasonable suspicion linking him to the attack.
As a result, the court ruled Hammaduddin’s arrest unlawful and ordered his immediate release. This action underscores the court’s commitment to ensuring justice and rectifying procedural errors within the CTD.
