The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has banned television channels from portraying police officers mockingly or sarcastically in their programming.
PEMRA’s new directive specifically prohibits the depiction of characters in police uniforms in comedic or satirical skits.
PEMRA has raised concerns about the frequent derogatory portrayal of police uniforms in satirical programs, deeming such representations as alarming and unacceptable for broadcast on satellite TV channels. The authority has cited numerous complaints from viewers regarding this issue.

Under the directive, TV channels are instructed to avoid any dialogue or content that might undermine the dignity of state institutions, especially the police. Immediate cessation of law enforcement uniforms in comedy shows is mandated.
Additionally, PEMRA has reminded TV channels to comply with the terms and conditions of their licenses. Channels that fail to adhere to these guidelines risk facing punitive actions under Sections 27, 29A, and 30 of the PEMRA Ordinance.
