The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has faced widespread criticism for imposing a $25 entry fee for fans wishing to meet players during a private dinner event in the USA, where the national team is participating in the ICC T20 Cricket tournament.
The PCB’s decision to charge fans surprised many; some left the venue without meeting their favourite cricketers. The controversy intensified after the issue gained public attention, resulting in significant backlash against the PCB.
Former captain and wicketkeeper Rashid Latif strongly criticised the PCB’s approach, questioning the appropriateness of engaging in such commercial activities close to or during the World Cup. He pointed out that these events consume valuable time that is better spent on training and practice sessions.
Latif urged the PCB to prioritize cricket over commercial interests, arguing that financial success would naturally follow if the focus remained on sporting excellence. He also noted that the scheduling of practice sessions is sometimes adjusted to accommodate commercial commitments, which can compromise the players’ preparedness and focus on the tournament.
