Hina Munawar, an experienced police officer specializing in security and operations, has become the first female manager of the Pakistan men’s cricket team. With a background in serving high-risk areas like Swat with the Frontier Constabulary, Munawar will be the Operations Manager for the upcoming Tri-Nation Series and ICC Champions Trophy, starting February 19 in Karachi.
While senior retired bureaucrat Naveed Akram Cheema will continue as the team manager, Munawar’s appointment marks a significant step toward inclusivity in Pakistan cricket. Her role will focus on streamlining operations and enhancing coordination between players and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
A source close to the PCB stated, “Perhaps her appointment is aimed at streamlining operations within the team and between players and the board, as she has worked in strategic and leadership roles, helping to streamline various operations.”
Munawar’s Impressive Background
Munawar joined the PCB last year and has a strong track record of breaking gender barriers. She made history as the first female district officer in the Frontier Constabulary in Swat, a role traditionally dominated by men. Her expertise in security and operations has earned her respect and recognition in challenging environments.
In addition to her new role with the men’s team, Munawar previously managed the Pakistan women’s under-19 team during the Asia Cup, further showcasing her leadership capabilities.
The PCB’s decision to appoint Munawar reflects its commitment to creating a more organized and efficient team management structure. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi brought Munawar into the board on deputation, as she remains an active member of the Police Service of Pakistan.
Her appointment introduces fresh perspectives to the traditionally male-dominated and coaching-focused setup, signalling a shift toward greater diversity and innovation in Pakistan cricket.
