PCB Announces Squad for England and Ireland Tours

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a squad for the upcoming tours of England and Ireland.

The team, led by Babar Azam, will play a three-match T20I series with Ireland from May 10 to May 14. Then, starting May 22, it will head to England for a four-match series. Both tours are pivotal for the team’s preparation for the T20I World Cup 2024, scheduled to start in June in the United States and West Indies.

The PCB has announced that the squad will be reduced to 15 players following the first T20I against England to comply with the ICC’s team announcement deadline on May 24 for the T20I World Cup 2024.

The PCB highlighted the return of players like Haris Rauf and Azam Khan to the national team after missing recent matches against New Zealand due to injuries. Mohammad Rizwan and Muhammad Irfan, who were rested for two games during the same series, are also back on the team.

The board confirmed that these players have successfully passed their fitness assessments, reassuring the team management of their readiness for the upcoming tours. Hasan Ali has been included in the squad for his extensive experience in T20 Internationals and performances in ICC events. However, Zaman Khan and spinner Usama Mir, who both played in the New Zealand series, did not make the selection.

The selection committee remains optimistic about the future contributions of Usama and Zaman, encouraging them to stay ready for potential opportunities. The team will assemble for a three-day training camp in Lahore from May 4 to 6 before departing for Dublin on May 7.
