On June 28, 2025, Ligue 1 club Monaco announced a two-year contract with Paul Pogba, marking the 2018 World Cup winner’s return to football after a nearly two-year absence. The 32-year-old midfielder, sidelined by injuries, an 18-month doping ban, and an extortion case, aims to reignite his career in France’s top tier. Consequently, Pogba’s move to Monaco, a Champions League contender, has sparked excitement among fans.

Pogba, who last played for Juventus before his contract was terminated in 2024, faced a doping ban after testing positive in August 2023. He was cleared to return to the field in March 2025 and expressed his readiness to compete, stating in an interview with French television, “I’m mentally and physically ready.” This will be his first professional appearance in Ligue 1, following his youth career at Le Havre and previous stints at Manchester United and Juventus.

Paul Pogba’s career has been tumultuous, marked by just 12 appearances over three seasons due to injuries, as well as a 2022 extortion case involving his brother Mathias, who was sentenced to three years in prison. Despite these challenges, Pogba has scored 11 goals in 91 appearances for France, including a crucial strike in the World Cup final, showcasing his talent. Monaco’s third-place finish last season has secured them a spot in the Champions League, providing Pogba with an opportunity to shine on a high-profile stage.

The signing has generated excitement, with posts on X expressing optimism about Pogba’s return, although opinions are still mixed. His world-record transfer of € 105 million to Manchester United in 2016, along with four Serie A titles won with Juventus, highlights his capabilities. However, ongoing injuries lead to concerns about his consistency.
