An audit by ‘PATTAN-Coalition 38’ has sparked controversy over the results of three National Assembly seats in Islamabad. The audit revealed serious voting discrepancies that challenged the officially declared winners.
As reported by Dawn News, the audit involved meticulous comparisons of Form 45, collected from candidates, against Form 47 from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The audit results show major inconsistencies. For instance, in NA-46 Islamabad-1, the PTI-backed candidate, Aamir Masood, supposedly garnered 75,608 votes, starkly contrasting with the 44,317 votes recorded on the ECP’s Form 47, where PML-N’s Anjum Aqeel Khan was declared the winner with 81,958 votes. The audit noted over 200 discrepancies across 342 polling stations, often showing that the PTI and PML-N candidates swapped votes.
Similarly, for NA-47 Islamabad-2, the audit affirmed that PTI-backed Shoaib Shaheen received 101,061 votes, far more than the 86,794 recorded on the ECP’s Form 47 that instead declared PML-N’s Tariq Fazal Chaudhry the winner with 101,397 votes. Discrepancies were noted in at least 198 of the 387 polling stations reviewed.
In NA-48 Islamabad-3, the audit showed that PTI-backed Syed Muhammad Ali Bukhari received 70,318 votes, significantly higher than the 59,851 reported on the ECP’s Form 47. The number of votes for the PML-N candidate was also notably inflated in the official records.
PATTAN-Coalition 38 extensive audit has exposed profound errors and potential manipulations, prompting Patun-Coalition 38 to call for immediate legal and electoral review to address these discrepancies undermining the democratic process.
The group has urged the ECP and the courts to expedite the resolution of election-related disputes, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
