Pat McAfee, a former NFL player and current ESPN host, found himself discussing the escalating feud between ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers on his program.
Despite the controversy’s intensity, McAfee hoped for a resolution between the two public figures.
McAfee reflected on the events that led to the heated exchange during his show. He noted that the relaxed and spontaneous nature of his show often leads to light-hearted banter but acknowledged that, in this instance, things might have escalated beyond the intended joviality.
McAfee stated, “We obviously don’t like to be associated with anything negative ever. We’d like our show to be an uplifting one, a happy one, a fun one, but it’s because we talk shit and try to make light of everything.”
Understanding the positions of both Kimmel, who is a significant figure at Disney, and Rodgers, who has been the subject of Kimmel’s monologues, McAfee offered a nuanced view: “I can understand why Jimmy got incredibly upset… but also I think Aaron is like, ‘hey, this guy has said some stuff about me in his monologue’, and he’s just trying to shit talk. I don’t think he meant anything else, but he’s going to have to clarify that for us.”
Desire for Amicable Resolution and Moving Forward
McAfee wished for an amicable resolution, hoping Kimmel and Rodgers could reconcile their differences. He regretted the show’s involvement in the controversy and emphasized his desire for both parties to move past the issue professionally.

Looking ahead with a touch of humor, McAfee lightened the mood by mentioning NFL star JJ Watt as an upcoming guest, joking, “I’m not sure there’ll be any threatened lawsuits with that one coming today.” His approach remained one of optimism and humor, as he navigated through the challenging situation.
