The broadcasting landscape for European football in the United Kingdom is set for a significant transformation. Paramount+ has secured the rights to broadcast the majority of UEFA Champions League matches from 2027 to 2031. They successfully outbid the current main broadcaster, TNT Sports.
The announcement was made on Friday by Team Marketing, the organisation that sells broadcasting rights for UEFA club competitions on behalf of the European football governing body. This deal marks a major strategic entry for the US media giant into the competitive UK sports broadcasting market.
Paramount+ will be the new home of Champions League coverage in the UK, winning the auction for rights between 2027 and 2031.

The acquisition concludes TNT Sports’ long-standing tenure as the UK’s primary home of the Champions League. They have held this position since the 2015-16 season. The joint venture between BT Group and Warner Bros. Discovery acknowledged the loss of the rights. They stated it remained committed to a “financially sensible” approach for its business and customers.
Despite this setback, TNT Sports emphasised it would continue to offer a robust sports portfolio. This includes its rights to the English Premier League and a wide array of other premium sports content. This ensures it remains a key player in the UK’s pay-TV sports landscape.
In a related development, Amazon’s Prime Video service retained its rights package. The streaming service will continue to have the first pick of Tuesday evening matches in the UK. Additionally, it retains rights in two other unspecified European markets. This ensures that multiple streaming platforms will share the coveted Champions League broadcasting rights from the 2027 season onward. This reflects a continuing shift in how fans consume top-tier football.
