PAKSAT-MM1, Pakistan’s first multi-mission satellite, is operational after successful tests, highlighting progress in the nation’s space and digital initiatives.
At the PAKSAT-MM1 Satellite Application Conference, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, underscored the commitment to leveraging space technology for national development. She declared the satellite a game-changer for communication, promising benefits across society.
It aims to boost internet access, particularly in isolated areas, aligning with efforts toward a digital Pakistan. Khawaja stressed, “Digitalization drives socio-economic growth.”
She also highlighted a 14-point jump in Pakistan’s ranking on the UN’s e-governance development index, advancing the country to a higher tier in Asian digital governance.
Muhammad Yousuf Khan, Chairman of SUPARCO, commended the team for their work on PAKSAT-MM1, which he described as vital for socio-economic progress and enhancing Pakistan’s global space industry stature. He encouraged local industry collaboration for future space endeavours.
Designed for a lifespan exceeding 15 years, PAKSAT-MM1 will provide broadband, VSAT connectivity, and more, supporting Pakistan’s digital empowerment goals. Operating across C, Ku, Ka, and L bands, the satellite showcases the country’s space technology prowess.
The event drew government officials, industry leaders, and experts who acknowledged the satellite’s role in narrowing the digital gap and fostering national development.
