Bilal Maqsood, the former frontman of the band Strings, announced that the third season of his children’s puppet show, *Pakkay Dost*, will premiere on September 1, 2025. In an Instagram video posted on July 25, 2025, Maqsood encouraged parents to tune in, describing the show as his “life’s purpose” in making Urdu cool again and instilling Pakistani values in children.
Maqsood shared that “Pakkay Dost is my way of making Urdu cool again so that our kids don’t feel judged when speaking our language.” The show features 13 to 14 original Urdu songs each season, blending his 33 years of musical expertise from Strings with puppet characters to both educate and entertain children. Season 3 aims to counter the influence of foreign media, which, as Maqsood noted, often lacks Pakistani values.
Maqsood voiced his concern: “Children and parents are turning away from Urdu.” To address this issue, he aims to instil pride in the Urdu language, which has been overlooked in local children’s entertainment, by producing high-quality content. The show promotes linguistic and cultural heritage, connecting with Pakistan’s identity in an era dominated by globalised media.
Acknowledging unavoidable screen time, Maqsood urged: “We can’t stop phones and tablets, but we can ensure kids watch content aligned with our traditions.” Pakkay Dost offers a value-driven alternative, appealing to parents who seek meaningful entertainment for their children.
Post-Strings, Maqsood pivoted to children’s content, stating: “This is my life’s purpose now.” He appealed to his fanbase: “Support my journey by ensuring kids watch Pakkay Dost.” Fans on X responded enthusiastically, with posts like “Bilal’s making Urdu fun for kids!”
Pakistan’s entertainment industry often prioritises adult content, leaving children’s programming underserved. Maqsood’s initiative aligns with cultural preservation efforts, complementing educational reforms in Sindh and Punjab.
