The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) disclosed a slight rise in weekly inflation, as gauged by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), noting a 0.04 per cent increment for the week concluding on February 22.
A price variation was observed throughout the week: 23 items experienced a price hike, four items saw a reduction, and 20 items maintained their previous price levels.
Among the goods witnessing a reduction in average prices from the previous week were onions, which decreased by Rs 29.17, eggs by Rs 34.32, LPG cylinders by Rs 58.96, and a 20kg bag of flour by Rs 10.6.
Conversely, notable increases in average prices included tomatoes, rising by Rs 24.53, chicken by Rs 5.79 per kg, sugar by Rs 1.25, mutton by Rs 15.7, beef by Rs 6.26, and yoghurt by Rs 1.53.
An earlier report on January 19 highlighted that weekly inflation, as measured by the SPI, had escalated by 0.34 per cent for combined consumption groups in the week ending on January 18.
PBS data for the recent week indicated an SPI at 319.00 points for the mentioned group, a slight elevation from 317.92 points in the preceding week.
For the lowest consumption group, with expenditures up to Rs. 17,732, the SPI saw a 0.61 per cent rise, reaching 314.12 points from 312.23 points the previous week.
Out of 51 assessed items during the week, price fluctuations were recorded across categories: 22 items (43.14%) increased in price, eight items (15.68%) decreased, and 21 items (41.18%) remained unchanged.
