Solar panel prices in Pakistan have reached an all-time low, dropping to Rs. 30-32 per watt.
Industry insiders reveal that this price reduction is primarily due to a significant global decrease in lithium battery costs. Over the past year, lithium battery prices have fallen by nearly 50%, causing a major shift in the solar energy market. However, dry battery prices have remained stable, as importers have not transferred the savings to local consumers.
Since 2023, Pakistan’s solar energy sector has grown substantially, driven by rising demand for net metering. The high cost of grid electricity has led many consumers to switch to more affordable and reliable solar solutions.
With solar kit prices at historic lows, Pakistan is set to continue expanding its use of renewable energy.
On April 27, the Power Division dismissed reports about a fixed tax on solar power, calling them unfounded and misleading. The division confirmed that no summary of such a tax has been submitted to the government. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had suggested taxing solar panel users for residential or commercial use.
