Pakistan is reportedly assembling a security delegation to assess venues in India, a prerequisite for the team’s participation in this year’s World Cup.
The delegation’s mission, as per sources, involves a comprehensive review of the security measures and other provisions at the venues where Pakistan is scheduled to play matches.
Consultation with Ministries Precedes Delegation’s Visit
Before the trip, the delegation must consult with the Ministry of Interior and Foreign Affairs. Once these consultations are completed, they will likely visit Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad, following the election of a new chairman for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
According to an official from the Inter-Provincial Coordination (Sports) Ministry, the security delegation, accompanied by representatives from the PCB, will interact with Indian officials.
The discussions will focus on security arrangements and provisions for players, officials, fans, and media attending the World Cup. Any concerns the delegation raises will be reported to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The PCB earlier conveyed its official stance regarding the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 following the release of the event’s schedule by the ICC.
A spokesperson clarified that the PCB requires clearance from the Government of Pakistan for any tour to India, including the venues for the matches. The Board is currently seeking guidance from the government and will update the Event Authority (ICC) upon receipt of any directives.
