Pakistan’s total liquid foreign reserves have reached a level of US$12,107.1 million, as reported by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). Of this total, the central bank itself holds reserves amounting to $7,020.2 million.
The SBP released a statement on Thursday detailing the recent movements in its reserves. For the week ending December 1, 2023, the SBP’s reserves saw a decrease of $237 million, primarily due to debt repayments. This reduction brought the central bank’s reserves down to $7,020.2 million.
In addition to the reserves held by the central bank, commercial banks in Pakistan hold net foreign reserves totalling $5,086.9 million. The previous week, ending November 24, 2023, saw the country’s total liquid foreign reserves at $12.39 billion, with the central bank holding $7.257 billion and commercial banks holding $5.136 billion. This distribution highlights the ongoing financial management efforts of Pakistan’s banking sector.
