Marvia Malik, Pakistan’s first transgender news anchor, survived a gunfire shot outside her home in the Lahore Cantonment region on Thursday night.
According to the initial reports, Two assailants allegedly opened fire on Marvia Malik as she returned home from a pharmacy.
Marvia Malik advocates for the rights of the transgender community; her police statement reported that she had received threatening phone calls and text messages from unidentified individuals.
According to Ms. Malik, she relocated to Islamabad and Multan after fleeing Lahore out of fear. She had recently returned to Lahore for a medical operation. She stated that her advocacy “seriously affected” the assassination attempt.
