Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Mufti Abdul Shakoor, tragically died in a car accident in Islamabad on Saturday.
Islamabad Capital Police reported on Twitter that a Hilux Revo struck the minister’s vehicle as he traveled from the Marriott toward Secretariat Chowk. Shakoor was quickly taken to Polyclinic Hospital in the capital, but severe internal bleeding ultimately led to his demise.
Following the accident, senior police officers arrived at the scene, and those in the vehicle responsible for the collision were apprehended. Two out of the five individuals sustained injuries.
Notable figures such as Islamabad Inspector-General Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb, and other federal ministers visited the hospital where Shakoor passed away.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his condolences, describing Shakoor as a “practical scholar, an ideological political activist, and a decent human being.”
The prime minister recognized the late minister as one of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s ideological leaders and praised his dedication, sincerity, and honesty in carrying out his Minister of Religious Affairs duties.
