Nida Yousaf Sheikh, a dedicated social innovator from Lahore, Pakistan, has clinched a position among the top 10 laureates of the esteemed One Young World’s LEAD 2030. The recognition comes with a portion of the substantial $500,000 fund earmarked for trailblazers in sustainable development initiatives worldwide.
Sheikh, the proactive CEO of Tayaba Welfare International Association (TWIA), made her presence felt strongly at the annual summit in Belfast, articulating her vision during a compelling keynote address.
Innovating for Sustainable Development
Sheikh’s groundbreaking work through TWIA earned her this global accolade. The fund she received is slated for deploying inventive solutions in Pakistan, ranging from H2O wheels and hygiene kits to advanced solar water facilities, with blockchain technology enhancing the efficiency and transparency of these projects. These initiatives, particularly introducing the 40-litre H2O wheel, form part of Sheikh’s ambitious strategy to revolutionize water and sanitation practices, impacting over half a million lives in Pakistan’s rural communities.
A Call to Pakistani Youth
Reflecting on her journey, Sheikh emphasized the underrepresentation of Pakistan’s vibrant youth at global forums like the One Young World Summit. She issued a stirring call to her compatriots, urging emerging leaders to embrace challenges, innovate relentlessly, and pursue impactful collaborations. “While my journey has reached this international podium today, I envision a future where more Pakistani voices contribute to global discourses, shaping a world where sustainable living isn’t the exception but the norm,” Sheikh asserted, underscoring the value of resilience and the lessons imbued in setbacks.
