The federal government is poised to approve a significant increase in the salaries of National Assembly (MNAs) members and Senators potential 200% raise from the current monthly salary of approximately Rs. 1.68 lakh.
Sources indicate that the proposal, which aims to address the demands of both coalition and opposition parties, will be submitted to the National Assembly and the Senate for approval.
Additionally, there are plans to raise the salaries of ministers and advisors. Notably, the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Senate could see their monthly earnings rise to Rs. 15 lakh.
This decision follows joint calls from government and opposition members for a salary increase in response to escalating inflation. Many members have expressed difficulties in managing their finances due to salaries that have not kept pace with the rising cost of living.

The Speaker of the National Assembly will address the issue and present it to the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. Lawmakers are advocating for parity with their counterparts in the Punjab and Balochistan assemblies, who have already seen substantial salary increases.
Recently, the Punjab Assembly passed a bill, introduced by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, that substantially increased the salaries of MPAs, provincial ministers, and other officials. Despite some objections from Opposition leader Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar, the bill was passed by a majority vote.
