The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a weather alert on May 27, 2025, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across multiple regions of Pakistan from Tuesday through May 31. Citizens should take precautions to stay safe during possible dust and hailstorms.
The PMD forecasts widespread showers, gusty winds, and thunderstorms in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Downpours with lightning are likely in the upper and southeastern districts of Sindh, including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Thar, Mithi, Islamkot, Dadu, Hyderabad, and Nawabshah.
Morning temperatures on May 27 included Islamabad at 24°C, Lahore at 29°C, Karachi at 30°C, Peshawar at 27°C, Quetta at 26°C, Gilgit at 16°C, Murree at 15°C, and Muzaffarabad at 20°C.

The PMD recommends securing outdoor structures, avoiding open areas during storms, and staying updated on weather alerts. “Heavy rain and winds can cause flash flooding in low-lying areas,” said a PMD spokesperson. Residents in Sindh’s arid regions, like Thar, should prepare for potential disruptions, as heavy rainfall is unusual for late May.
In Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, the PMD forecasts partly cloudy conditions with possible rain and thunderstorms in Srinagar (12°C), Jammu (26°C), Leh (3°C), Pulwama (12°C), Anantnag (13°C), Shopian (13°C), and Baramulla (12°C). These predictions correspond to regional monsoon patterns.
