The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasted hot and dry weather across most of Pakistan through Thursday, May 15, 2025. Hot conditions are expected in the southern plains, particularly Sindh and Punjab.
Continental air is causing the current heatwave, with isolated rain, wind, and the possibility of thunderstorms in northern regions such as Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, as reported on May 13 at 6:12 PM PKT.
Weather Conditions and Forecast
The PMD reported that Dadu recorded the country’s highest temperature on May 12 at 47°C, followed by 45°C in Khairpur, Mohenjo-Daro, and Larkana. Southern areas are set to face intensified heat on May 14, with “very hot” afternoons forecast.
Isolated rainfall occurred in Upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, with Kalam receiving 6 mm, Pattan 4 mm, and Chilas 5 mm. The dry spell is expected to persist, with no major temperature changes through Thursday.
While most regions remain under hot, dry conditions due to prevailing continental air, northern areas like Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir may see scattered rain, wind, and thunderstorms on May 14. The PMD warned of extreme afternoon heat in Sindh and southern Punjab, advising citizens to stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours.
The PMD urged precautions in very hot areas, emphasising hydration and limited sun exposure to prevent heat-related illnesses. The forecast aligns with recent regional stabilisation following the Pakistan-India ceasefire on May 10, allowing focus on domestic issues like weather preparedness.
The PMD’s data, corroborated by local weather stations, ensures reliable guidance for residents and amplifies calls for public awareness.
