The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that fast bowler Abbas Afridi will miss the 3rd T20I against New Zealand.
This decision follows his struggle with a low-grade abdominal wall muscle strain. Although scans showed no significant injury, Afridi will undergo symptomatic management. The PCB will decide his availability for the final two matches later.
New Zealand Leads Series, Injury Concerns for Both Teams
New Zealand secured a 2-0 lead in the series after beating Pakistan by 21 runs in the second T20I. Despite half-centuries from Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman, Pakistan fell short, scoring 173 against New Zealand’s 194-8. The match saw New Zealand’s captain, Kane Williamson, retire hurt with a hamstring injury, casting doubt on his participation in the rest of the series.
Finn Allen led New Zealand’s batting with a dynamic 70 off 41 balls. Allen’s performance, marked by his new approach to assessing conditions, proved crucial. Despite Fakhar’s powerful 50 off 25 balls, Pakistan’s momentum faded, especially after Babar’s dismissal for 66. New Zealand’s Milne shone with 4-33, effectively dismantling Pakistan’s top order early in the game. Allen’s aggressive batting, featuring five sixes and seven fours, set a strong foundation for New Zealand’s victory.
