Pakistan to Launch MM1 Satellite, Boosting National Internet and Broadcasting Services

Pakistan is poised to launch its inaugural communication satellite, MM1, to deliver high-speed internet nationwide.

On May 30, 2024, Pakistan will achieve a landmark moment in its technological journey by launching the PAKSAT MM-1 satellite from the Xichang Satellite Center in China, Coordinated by SUPARCO. The event is poised to revolutionize Pakistan’s digital framework by enhancing telecommunications nationwide.

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced that the satellite will significantly improve cellular services, broadband access, and television broadcasting, especially in remote areas.

Positioned in the Geostationary Orbit at about 36,000 kilometres above Earth, PAKSAT MM-1 is equipped to support various services, including high-speed internet, advanced TV broadcasting, and more.

The launch is crucial not merely for its immediate enhancements to connectivity but also as a key step towards realizing the vision of a Digital Pakistan. Dr. Usman Iftikhar, the project manager at SUPARCO, highlights PAKSAT MM-1 as a foundational element in developing Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.
