The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has released its Annual Report for FY 2024–25. It highlights strong growth across Pakistan’s telecommunications sector, with total subscribers exceeding 200 million.
According to the report, broadband connections have crossed 150 million. Meanwhile, total sector revenue surpassed Rs1 trillion during the fiscal year. The telecom industry contributed Rs402 billion to the national exchequer. This underlines its growing role in Pakistan’s economy.
Investment in the sector reached $838 million, up 9% year over year. Overall revenue grew 12%, driven by increased data usage and improved network coverage. Telecom services now cover 92% of Pakistan’s geographic area, while broadband penetration has risen above 60%.

The report shows that 95% of cellular networks are operating on 4G technology, significantly improving data speeds and service quality. In addition, four new submarine cables were added during the year, strengthening Pakistan’s regional and global connectivity.
Internet data consumption hit a record high of 27,727 petabytes. This was driven by increased smartphone adoption and the growth of digital services. PTA noted that 95% of mobile phones used in Pakistan are now locally manufactured. Notably, 68% of total devices are smartphones.
Pakistan also improved its global cybersecurity ranking during the year. PTA said consumer complaints declined by 13% following stronger regulatory oversight and enhanced consumer protection measures.
Reaffirming its future roadmap, PTA stated that preparations for the launch of 5G services remain a priority. They are also focused on continued efforts to support the digital economy and expand high-speed connectivity nationwide.
