The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. All-rounder Shadab Khan is returning to the national side.
Uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Khawaja Nafay has earned his maiden international call-up.
Several senior players have not been included in the squad. These include Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, and Haris Rauf. All four are currently participating in Australia’s Big Bash League, with the T20I series overlapping the tournament schedule.
Shadab Khan last represented Pakistan in June before undergoing shoulder surgery earlier this year. Following a successful rehabilitation programme at the National Cricket Academy, he has regained full fitness.
The PCB said his strong performances in the Big Bash League prompted selectors to recall him for the Sri Lanka series. The 23-year-old Khawaja Nafay has impressed in domestic cricket and with Pakistan Shaheens. He has played 32 T20 matches and owns a strike rate of 132.81. These achievements have earned him his first national team selection.

According to the PCB, Salman Ali Agha will continue as captain. He has already led Pakistan in a record 34 T20Is this year. This is the most by any Pakistani player in a single calendar year.
Pakistan will depart for Sri Lanka in the first week of January. All three matches will be played at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium on January 7, 9, and 11.
The PCB said the series will help Pakistan finalise combinations ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. This tournament is scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
