Pakistan strikes seven terrorist camps along the Afghan border in a retributive, intelligence-based operation, according to an official statement issued on 21 February 2026.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said the action followed recent suicide bombings in Islamabad, Bajaur and Bannu, including an attack on an imambargah during the holy month of Ramzan.
According to the statement, Pakistan has “conclusive evidence” that the attacks were carried out by militants referred to as Khwarij, acting under Afghanistan-based leadership and handlers. Responsibility was also claimed by Afghanistan-based members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, identified as Fitna al Khwarij (FAK), their affiliates and Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP).
Pakistan Strikes Seven Terrorist Camps After Suicide Attacks
The government said it had repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban authorities to take verifiable measures to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch cross-border attacks.
However, the statement asserted that no substantive action was taken. As a result, Pakistan carried out what it described as “intelligence-based selective targeting” of seven camps and hideouts belonging to FAK, its affiliates and ISKP in the border region.

The ministry reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability. At the same time, it emphasised that the safety and security of Pakistani citizens remain the top priority.
Islamabad also called on the interim Afghan government to fulfil its obligations and deny the use of its soil for attacks against Pakistan.
Furthermore, Pakistan urged the international community to encourage the Taliban authorities to adhere to commitments under the Doha Agreement, particularly regarding preventing cross-border terrorism. Authorities have not released additional operational details.
