The Norway Cup 2023 witnessed an exhilarating semi-final match where the street child team from Pakistan advanced to the finals by triumphing over Bremnes 2-0 in Oslo on Friday.
The commendable feat was achieved thanks to the scoring prowess of Abid Ali and Abdullah, who struck the winning goals for the ‘Men in Green’.
This victory marked Pakistan’s seventh consecutive win in the tournament, maintaining their undefeated streak. With a tally of 28 goals scored and only two conceded, they’ve shown a formidable performance in the tournament.
Now, only one hurdle stands between them and the triumph they narrowly missed last year in Doha at the Street Child World Cup final.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Norway, Saadia Altaf Qazi, met the team on Tuesday (August 1), commending their impressive performance in the tournament.
Competing under Muslim Hands FC, a charitable organization, the team from Pakistan is part of an impressive roster of 2,350 teams and about 30,000 players participating in the Norway Cup.
It’s worth mentioning that Pakistan previously finished as runners-up in the Street Child World Cup held in Doha last year, where they were undefeated until the final, losing to Egypt in a penalty shootout (4-3). They were also runners-up in the 2018 edition in Russia and secured third place in Brazil in 2014.
The Pakistan squad consists of: Tufail Shinwari (c), Saud Ahmed, Asad Nasir, Abid Ali, Faisal Ahmad, Mohammad Ali, Ahmad Raza, Abdul Wahab, Shahmir, Sahil Gull, Mohammad Adeel, Abdullah, Ubaid Ullah, Ali Asif.
